Chapter 5

Libraries

Libraries contains components (also called devices) are the core to create scheamtics with the SchematicEditor. Beside symbols and simulation information it may include all information on its layout. This can be a link to a existing design or link to a macro which create a parametric design. In the Integrated Circuit design libraries are often called Physical Design Kits (PDK) and shipped be the foundery as it contains process spezific and confidential information.

Install a PDK

Use the PDK Installer (Utilities → Technology → PDK Installer) to download or unpack open PDKs (SkyWater, GF180MCU, IHP), the training OpenCellLibrary, and X-Fab packages. Kits are installed under $PDK_ROOT (default ~/LayoutEditor) and opened automatically.

These libraries are shiped with the LayoutEditor / SchematicEditor:
  • Parametric Shape Library with non electrical shapes like alignment marks
  • Open Cell Library an Integrated Circuit PDK for education and demonstration (also via PDK Installer)
  • LT Spice Library an import library for LTSpice schematics
  • Qucs Library an import library for Qucs schematics
  • discretes a template library with some discrete PCB devices
  • transitors a template library with some PCB transistors
  • sources a template library with power sources
  • simulation common simulation commands runing with different simulatior
Open / foundry PDKs (via PDK Installer or manual setup):
  • SkyWater Open Source PDK (sky130)
  • X-Fab suppliers PDK for different processes
